DAY 1:

Starts with 7:30am taxi pick up from within Toowoomba, transferring you to Toowoomba’s new airport where we all meet before checking in. Now sit back and relax. Our Airnorth flight to Cairns is less than 2 hours in the sky and after a meal and cuppa we will land in tropical Cairns.

At the Cairns airport we will board our private charter coach for the weekend and let the “Reef and Rainforest 3 Day Adventure” begin.

Our first adventure is to catch the Green Island Ferry and spend an action filled ½ day on our Green Island Tour.  Green Island is situated 27 kilometres (17 miles) east of Cairns and can truly be described as a tropical Island Paradise.  The Island is covered in tropical rainforest with pristine white sand beaches.  The Island is surrounded by amazingly colourful coral reef that is teaming with unique sea life.

We take you to the Reef Fleet Terminal where you will board your modern, air-conditioned catamaran.  You will be treated with complimentary tea and coffee whilst you wait for departure.  After approximately 1 hour of cruising you will arrive on one of the world’s premiere island destinations where you will spend your time snorkelling, sightseeing or just relaxing.

Your choice as to whether you want to explore the amazing coral reef with the use of provided snorkelling equipment or by a tour on a glass bottom boat seeing coral, fish of all sizes and colours.  Either way you will you will be enthralled by the amazing world that presents just below the surface.

After this check out the local food and souvenir gifts shops, and can explore the tropical rainforest environment by following walking tracks through the national park, relax on one the many pristine beaches, or explore the surrounding reefs.

Take a dip in the protected ocean; leave your clothes in a locker for security while you swim. If you plan to get wet on Green Island make sure your togs (swim suite, Budgie smugglers, whatever you call them) and a towel are packed in your carry-on luggage.

Lunch is taken care of. We’ll supply you with a meal voucher.

4.00 pm departure and travel back to Cairns on the high speed catamaran and then transferred to your motel where your luggage will be waiting for you.

DAY 2:

Buffet breakfast we have a look at the shops, an opportunity to purchase some souvenirs and check out the shops, morning tea is provided. After our midday lunch we travel to Hartley’s Crocodile adventure for the afternoon. Starting with a Crocodile Farm Tour. Gain an insight into the operation of our crocodile farm. Learn how farming contributes to the conservation of wild crocodiles and their habitat.

Other activities to enjoy:

  • Snake Show: Discover the world’s most venomous snakes and learn how to administer first aid for a snake bite.
  • We’ll take a cruise on Hartley’s Lagoon spotting crocodiles and other wildlife in this superb tropical wetland Cruise time approx 25 minutes.
  • You’ll be entertained with the best crocodile show in Australia. Watch the professional, experienced keepers demonstrate the notorious death roll and head shake.
  • Wallaby & Quoll Feeding: A delightful to help our keepers with the afternoon Wallaby & kangaroo feed. Learn about one of Australia’s unique marsupial carnivores, the spotted tailed quoll when our keepers feed them with their favourite treats.
  • Cassowary Feeding: Learn about the magnificent endangered rainforest birds and watch them devour tropical fruit – whole.
  • Koala Feeding: Koalas sleep most of the day. Feed time is your chance to watch them come alive when presented with fresh gum leaves.

Time to freshen up and get ready for your Cairns Dinner Cruise, on the “Spirit of Cairns”. Dress code for this outing is Tropical cocktail attire, with a jacket during the winter months. Footwear is mandatory, suitable shoes for boating is recommended. Departure from the motel is at 6.10pm.

A Cairns Dinner Cruise (Waterside Dining) is the perfect way, to end a perfect day in paradise. Boarding their sailing catamaran at the Marlin Marina, you’ll enjoy an evening of calm water cruising on Trinity Inlet, taking in the sights and sounds of this tropical port city and its surrounding mangroves, as they transition from day to night.

Every journey begins with bubbles, as all good dinner cruises should. With your glasses charged, stroll the interior or exterior decks and admire the view as the sky transforms from blue to red to orange and finally a silky black, filled with thousands of sparkling stars.

Your journey takes you deep into the heart of Trinity Inlet and across the waterfront precinct of Cairns, from the Cruise Liner Terminal to the Esplanade. The water is calm, the weather mild and the night is yours to enjoy, with entertainment and a delicious buffet featuring some of the region’s best produce, including seafood. DAY 3:

Chillagoe Caves: Billy Tea Safaris is a small locally owned tour operator, which operates small personalised tours with custom built 4WD vehicles, and your naturalist guides have extensive knowledge of flora, fauna, history of the area and aboriginal culture, which will ensure your day will be a memory of a lifetime.

Your day begins when your accredited guide meets you at your accommodation Cairns CBD around 6.45am, and after introductions all round. We’ll ascend the McAllister Ranges and head west through dirt tracks via the little town of Biboorha, looking for many different species of bush birds, including Emus, Wedge Tail Eagles, Squatter Pigeons and Kangaroos, Frilled Neck Lizards, before reaching our first stop.

Mareeba Wetlands for morning tea and a twenty-minute cruise in an environmentally friendly and quiet electric boat. This is a magnificent setting and to see the Giant Lotus Lilly’s up close and also many different Water Birds as well. You will learn about the fragile Eco System of this wonderful reverse and also see the Rare Gouldian Finch breeding program.

From here we board the custom built 4WD vehicle and travel through the back blocks of this wetland area viewing wallabies, emus and other wildlife and then along the agricultural paddocks of this fertile area, where you will have a chance to see, paw paw, lychee, longen, mangoes; just to name a few eventually crossing over the Great Divide and into the Western watershed. We are now in the Australian Outback. We may sometimes have to take our wet weather alternate from the wetlands when the road is impassable, we will then visit Granite Gorge.

Take a step back in time as we travel through historical towns and rolling hills rich in mineral eventually giving way to towering limestone karsts scattered around Chillagoe Township. Here we delve into the history of the Chillagoe copper smelters, whose old chimneys dominate the western horizon.

We visit the remains of the once mighty smelters to ponder what it was like working there…. Now it’s time for a wonderful lunch at a true Australian Outback Pub built back at the turn of the century. After lunch we’ll set off to have a look at this historical town on route to our National Parks guided Chillagoe Cave tour where you will take a step back in time and be inspired by the knowledge of your guide as he explains about the fossilized remains of the ancient coral reefs some 400 – 420  million years old, with hidden limestone labyrinths give a portal to a lost world just like our own Great Barrier Reef. This was once the inland sea.

Millions of years in the making, the limestone formations and Chillagoe Caves are nothing short of spectacular. After the cave tour, we head back towards the east coast, stopping for a comfort stop along the way. The tour then returns back down the range arriving back in Cairns at approximately 6.30pm.  The evening meal will be at a restaurant.

Please ensure that you wear closed in footwear for the cave tour, please. No Thongs or High Heels on this tour.

DAY 4:

Buffet breakfast followed by Kuranda Trail and Skyrail.  Travelling in your upgraded* glass bottom gondola’s to Kuranda. There are 2 stops along the way where you can hop off and have a walk along the walking paths and read the notice boards about the rainforest. There is no rush, take your time and make the most of this opportunity to get up close to nature,  smell the rain forest and enjoy what little areas like this we still have in our wonderful country.

The Skyrail Rainforest Cableway experience spans 7.5kms over Australia’s pristine tropical rainforests. Skyrail is a must-do experience when you’re in Cairns.

You’ll glide just metres above the rainforest canopy before descending through the canopy layers and deep into the heart of the forest at Skyrail’s two rainforest mid-stations for the ultimate tropical rainforest experience.

A Skyrail Experience will take approximately 1½- 2 hours one way.

TRAVEL TIP: Get your camera’s ready. Our photographers particularly like the silhouette of the gondola on the rainforest.

Smithfield Terminal:

Skyrail’s Smithfield Terminal is located just 15 minutes from Cairns  and provides a convenient starting point.

Red Peak Station:

As you approach your first rainforest mid-station, Red Peak, your gondola will descend through the canopy layers and take you deep in the forest.

Barron Falls Station: On approach to Barron Falls Station you will enjoy spectacular views of the Barron Gorge, a deep chasm lined with dense rainforest vegetation.

Kurranda Terminal: From Barron Falls, your Skyrail experience continues through the mountains before gliding over the mighty Barron River and arriving at Skyrail’s Kuranda Terminal.

When you arrive in Kuranda there is time to wonder around some of their shops before your 12.00 noon buffet lunch* at the hotel. After lunch it is time to rejoin our coach to the wildlife attractions.

There are 3 wildlife attractions*, one being the wildlife animals including your photo cuddling a cute Koala and the others for the butterflies and the bird attractions.

Either walk back or catch our coach to the train station. Pick up from the “Butterfly” sign @ 2.50pm. We will all meet at the train station at 3.00 pm to board with your upgraded GOLD* pass. With this upgrade you get guaranteed club seating, wine, beer or soft drinks and cheese platters during your journey back to Cairns. All this is included in your GOLD pass.

Into Cairns about 5.30 pm and transferred back to your motel.

Evening meal tonight is truly one of the tour highlights.

DAY 5:

You’ll enjoy a buffet breakfast and town tour. After the mornings activities we will be off to the airport to check in our luggage and have morning tea before boarding our Airnorth plane for Toowoomba.

On arrival in Toowoomba we will say good bye and see you safely into a taxi to complete your journey home.
